A great adult spy film and Michael Caine's first movie -- with one of John Barry's most evocative scores. How can you go wrong? I saw this when it was first shown at the theater. I saved my high school lunch money until I could purchase the soundtrack (even paying an extra dollar for the Stereo version). I've been a John Barry fan ever since.I've read a bit of criticism of the audio on this Japanese release. I also have a copy of the Silva Screen edition, so a quick comparison follows: The Silva sounds very good, but the tracks are out of order as compared to the vinyl LP and there are snippets of dialogue between a few of the tracks, which I find irritating. The reviewer who was somewhat negative about the MVP CD did not state why he didn't like it, so I'm not sure what his perceived problem might have been. The Japanese MVP CD sounds fine to me, though it is a different mastering and I have no idea what source it was remastered from. I guess it's a tossup, although the Silva is quite a bit cheaper than the Japanese import. Either way, you can't go wrong if you're a fan of The Ipcress File. Best to pick up a copy of one or the other before they both disappear.
