I bought these for my mom since she likes to store her shoes in plastic boxes to keep them free from dust. Problem is, she couldn't see what she had so she wasn't wearing them often. This is a great solution to display all your shoes and still keep them clean and accessible. Liked it so much, I bought one for myself! Unlike her, I don't have a wall to stand it up against, but in seeing how they are made, we realized you can break them out into one or two rows and put them on shelves in your closet. Very pleased with purchaseI bought this item because I have shoes stashed in waist-high shoe racks along the entire length of my closet, shoes in boxes stacked to the ceiling on the high shelf in my closet, shoes hanging from my bedroom door, and shoes under my bed. (I know - I have a shoe addiction to address as well.). Anyways....This item now contains 48 pairs of my shoes. The number of shoes you can store depends in the types of shoes you want to put in there. For example, my son built this for me so I can't tell you anything about that except that he did it in about an hour. He built it 4 squares wide and 4 squares high because we didn't have room to make it any wider and my son thought that if we built it higher it might compromise its stability. That brings me to another reason I would recommend buying this item - you can make it as big or little, as wide or as tall, or any shape that you so desire. (As long as you order enough shelf material.). Each square holds 4 pairs of shoes UNLESS you are storing boots or heels higher than about4 inches, in that case, each square holds 2 pairs. The only thing you have to do to convert a square to accommodate higher shoes or boots is to leave out the middle shelf inside each square. **Hint - before you construct the shoe organizer, sit down and calculate how many regular sized shoes you need to store and how many pairs of boots or very high heels you need to store. This will tell you how many divided squares you need and how many big squares you'll need. For mine, the squares on the left and right sides are built for four pairs of shoes in each square. Then, the squares in the middle are built for super-high heels. I'm not going to delude you by letting you think I got ALL of my shoes in the item but I wad able to empty out the upper shelf in my closet, part of my closet floor and all the shoes that were on my door. This is such a blessing for anyone who has "out-grown" their current shoe storing system and wants a functional, practical, and sturdy shoe storing system. I strongly recommend this shoe storing system above any other as it is stylish, functional, and not too expensive.Once I figured out that in order to insert the shelves, you have to slip the hook into the plastic sleeve!! My fingers hurt from slipping them into the little plastic sleeves but once I got the logistics, it was easy to assemble. I’ll probably buy another section to add to it. For the taller heels I just laid them down the same way they are stored in a shoe box and I still got 2 pairs of shoes inside.Pretty easy to assemble, looks very clean and organized. Very sturdy, and can hold a good amount of weight. I overall love it!This thing fall every chance it gets I wish I can get a refund on it cause I’m tired of always fixing itI did not care for the instructions at all- but once I figured it out on my own, it went ok. It does fit a lot of shoes. However, some of the seams were coming apart so I think it’s not going to last very long. I also purchased the larger one for clothing but decided to send it back. Cost me $12.50 to do that but better than having more of the same in my closet. On the up side it does create nice cubbies to put things in and it is lightweight.BUT . . . though it snaps together easily getting the pieces aligned just right is not so easy. This leaves you with shelves that can't hold anything and doors that do not open or close smoothly. It's stability seems to rely on the tension created if all the pieces aligned just so. The hooks you set the shelves onto are very small and in my experience the shelves can only handle lightweight items.Maybe a couple pair of heels or one pair of short boots. It's still working for me. And does make for a more organized look. But I just wanted to let you know that unless your a wizz-bang at this assembly you will probable end up with something that is good enough but not exactly as you had hoped.Seems overpriced once assembled and examined. The white looks nice and uniform and I like the flexibility in assembly (it was too large for what I had planned but I was able to simply build a second stand in another room with the rest). However the overall product is very light and fragile (for the price) and I don't expect it to be a lasting investment. There were also a lot of corner connectors missing- however I used the 'contact seller' feature from my amazon purchases section and they immediately responded that they are sending plenty more and even gave a tracking number for their package.
